Pocheon Art Valley [Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark] (포천아트밸리 (한탄강 유네스코 세계지질공원))

Pocheon Art Valley is an upcycling tourist destination that combines history, ecology, and cultural content. This site was formerly a granite quarry where Pocheon stone—famous for its hardness and beauty, enough to be used in the buildings of major national institutions—was extracted for 30 years starting in the 1960s. However, as the production of high-quality granite declined after the 1990s, the site was left abandoned and devastated; Pocheon City transformed it into an eco-friendly complex art and culture park between 2004 and 2009.
Pocheon Art Valley has created a cultural and artistic space that combines traces of modern industrial heritage by eco-friendly restoring damaged natural landscapes and preserving parts of the past scenery as they were. It is a unique space where history, ecology, culture, arts, and education can all be found in one place.
